SDQ transfers in hurricane season and heavy rain

Use current warnings and flight updates rather than a seasonal average to make travel decisions.

Short answer

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, although storms can occur outside those dates. The season alone does not determine whether your transfer can run. Check current official warnings, your airline and dispatch for your actual route and travel date.

Separate a forecast from a transport decision

A monthly rainfall average cannot tell you whether a road is usable on a particular afternoon. Check the National Hurricane Center for tropical-system information and follow Dominican authorities' local instructions. Airline and airport updates answer a different question: whether your specific flight is operating.

Send dispatch any changed flight number or arrival date. Ask whether the pickup and destination remain accessible. A flight operating normally does not by itself confirm that every onward road or property entrance is unaffected.

Allow flexibility without promising a fixed extra buffer

Heavy rain can slow loading, visibility and the final approach to a property. Ask dispatch to reassess departure timing when conditions deteriorate. Adding an arbitrary fifteen minutes to every route is not a reliable answer to flooding, a closure or a diversion.

Keep documents, medication and charging equipment accessible rather than buried in the trunk. If a safe journey is not possible, follow official instructions and coordinate a revised plan with the accommodation and operator. Do not pressure a driver to cross standing water or ignore a closure.

Confirm cancellations with each provider

Notify dispatch directly if the trip is cancelled or postponed. Review the transfer terms separately from the airline, hotel and any travel insurance. One provider's weather waiver does not automatically change another provider's contract.

Keep the revised itinerary and each written response together. If a return flight moves to another airport, request a new route and quote rather than assuming the original SDQ booking covers it. Avoid making an unconfirmed replacement pickup the only plan for a time-critical journey.
